Two aircraft acquired by the Senator Douye Diri administration for commercial operations at the Bayelsa Airport have arrived Yenagoa.
Governor Diri had announced the readiness of his administration to acquire two aircraft for commercial operations at the state owned Bayelsa International Airport on Oct 7, 2025.
Diri had announced that the planes would operate the Yenagoa, Lagos and Abuja routes.
Governor Diri also promised that his administration was determined to make the Bayelsa International Airport more commercially effective for flight operations.
The first of the aircraft touched down at the Bayelsa Airport at 9am with Gov Diri and many prominent sons and daughters of the Ijaw nation on board.
Diri said that the airline to be named either Bayelsa Air or Air Bayelsa would be managed by Pioneer Airlines.
“After acquiring the two aircraft, we now name it Bayelsa Air or Air Bayelsa to be managed by Pioneer Airlines. That process should commence immediately.” He said
Diri’s procurement of the aircraft had attracted wide spread commendation from Bayelsans, the Ijaw nation and the Niger Delta as it would add the desired value to the Bayelsa Airport built by his predecessor, Senator Henry Seriake Dickson.
Prior to the coming of the new aircraft the Bayelsa aircraft operates a flight each from Abuja and Lagos every week thereby forcing Bayelsans to fly to Port Harcourt to embark on another journey by road to Yenagoa.
With the bold move by the Governor, there is the high expectation that the airport would operate daily flights from Yenagoa to Lagos and Yenagoa to Abuja.
