Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has threatened to sack political appointees and All Progressives Congress officials found selling empowerment items distributed to constituents, warning that the materials must reach their intended beneficiaries.
Yusuf issued the warning on Monday through the state APC chairman, Umar Haruna Doguwa, during the 12th empowerment programme organised by Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South Senatorial District.
“Whoever sold this intervention will go with his position; I will personally sack him. It is meant for your welfare, not selling, especially party leaders,” the governor warned.
The programme featured the distribution of 16 vehicles, 400 motorcycles and sewing machines to support party structures, small businesses and economic empowerment across the district.
The 16 vehicles were presented to APC local government chairmen, while the 400 motorcycles went to party executives across Kano South.
In the tailoring sector, 200 beneficiaries received empowerment packages comprising two standard sewing machines and one industrial sewing machine each, intended to strengthen their businesses and enable them to employ and train others.
Yusuf urged beneficiaries to use the items for their intended purposes, saying the initiative was designed to improve their welfare and promote economic self-reliance. He also expressed optimism about the APC’s chances in the 2027 general elections.
“We are hopeful that victory is ours come the 2027 general elections, God willing. Let’s continue to work assiduously,” he said.
Speaking at the event, Sumaila said the programme reflected his commitment to converting the trust placed in him by constituents into tangible development, economic independence and sustainable livelihoods.
“I acknowledge the economic and developmental challenges facing the people over the past three years, but my commitment to delivering dividends of democracy to Kano South remains unwavering,” the senator said.
Sumaila listed security, road infrastructure, agriculture, education, healthcare and water supply among the areas where he said he had supported development across the district.
On security, he reaffirmed his commitment to efforts to protect lives and property and commended local vigilante members, popularly known as Yan Sa-kai, for their role in securing Falgore Forest in Doguwa Local Government Area.
He also cited road construction and rehabilitation, bridge building and drainage projects, as well as the distribution of agricultural machinery, farming implements, improved seeds and thousands of bags of fertiliser to support wet-season and dry-season farming.
The senator said motorised, solar-powered and hand-pump boreholes had been provided in various communities, while schools had been constructed or rehabilitated and learning materials supplied. He added that more than 1,000 students had received support in secondary and tertiary institutions.
Sumaila further said healthcare facilities across the district had been renovated and equipped with modern medical tools, assuring constituents that he would continue to prioritise human capital development, economic empowerment and improved living standards.
