KWAM 1 Denies Alcohol Allegations in Airport Incident, Tenders Public Apology

By Joy Yesufu

A veteran Nigerian musician, King Wasiu Omagbolahan Olasunkanmi Adewale Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate has denied allegations that he attempted to board a ValueJet flight with alcohol.

He described the incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, as “unfortunate” and “misrepresented.”

In a statement on Friday, the artiste explained that he suffers from chronic dehydration and is under medical advice to remain constantly hydrated, which is why he always carries a water flask.

He stressed that the flask in question contained only water, not alcohol as reported in some quarters.

According to him, the flask was empty during two security screenings and was only filled with water at the airport lounge before boarding.

He added that CCTV footage could verify the claim, clarifying that he had not boarded the aircraft, “let alone being deboarded,” when the incident occurred.

“I acknowledge and deeply regret the concerns that arose from the incident. It was never my intention to cause any disruption or violate aviation protocols in any way,” he stated.

The artiste emphasised his decades-long contribution to promoting Nigerian music and culture globally, affirming that he would never engage in conduct that could tarnish his personal reputation or that of the country.

He tendered an unreserved apology to the Presidency, Ministry of Aviation, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), ValueJet, Nigerians, and fans worldwide for the misunderstanding.
