The Labour Party has named governance and public policy expert, Chibuzo Okereke, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election following a consensus decision by party stakeholders.
The party announced that Okereke’s emergence was ratified during a meeting in Abuja on May 30, positioning him as its standard-bearer for the next presidential race.
In unveiling the candidate, the Labour Party described Okereke as a governance reform advocate with extensive experience in public policy, legislative affairs and institutional development.
Okereke currently serves as President of ERGAF-AFRICA Legislative Governance Innovation and Policy Hub, a research and policy institution focused on governance and legislative development. He is also a legislative consultant to committees and senior lawmakers in the National Assembly.
Beyond his policy work, the party noted that he lectures in the Department of Public Policy and Administration at Miva Open University, where he trains public sector professionals and emerging policy leaders.
According to the party, Okereke holds a doctorate in Legislative Governance Studies as well as master’s degrees in Public Administration and Legislative Studies. It added that his contributions to debates on governance, accountability and national development have earned him visibility on both local and international media platforms.
The Labour Party said his background in policy development, democratic governance, education and youth empowerment reflects the type of leadership it believes is required to address Nigeria’s challenges ahead of the 2027 elections.
The adoption of Okereke adds a new dimension to the evolving political landscape as parties continue to position their candidates and build alliances ahead of the next general election.
