Lagos Government Shuts Down Popular Ladipo Market Again

By Kamsi Anayo

The Lagos state government has sealed the Ladipo Spare Parts Market along the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road (Apapa–Oshodi Expressway) over repeated environmental violations.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the closure on Sunday via X, stating that the action followed indiscriminate refuse disposal on the road median and highway, as well as illegal street trading around the market.

Ladipo Market, located in Mushin and known as a major hub for auto spare parts, has faced similar sanctions in the past for non-compliance with environmental regulations.

The latest move forms part of the state’s enforcement efforts to improve waste management and curb street trading across markets.

In 2023, the market was reopened after traders met sanitation and waste management conditions set by environmental authorities.

At the time, Wahab said the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu would continue to prioritise environmental standards, public health, and safety, while insisting that markets across the state comply with approved waste disposal practices.
