Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 21-year-old man, Samson Onilewaji, who was found in possession of a suspected human hand, firearms and other items during a stop-and-search operation along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
The suspect was apprehended while travelling in an unregistered commercial shuttle bus carrying six occupants, according to a statement issued on Friday by the command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi.
She said officers intercepted the vehicle during a routine operation and discovered the suspected human body part alongside weapons and other items during a search.
“Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command, while conducting a routine stop-and-search operation along the Lekki-Epe Expressway, intercepted an unregistered commercial shuttle bus conveying six occupants and arrested one male occupant found in possession of a suspected human body part, firearms, and other stolen items.
“During a search of the vehicle and its occupants, the suspect, identified as Samson Onilewaji, ‘m ’, aged 21 years, was found in possession of a suspected human right hand, two locally made pistols, one live cartridge, two axes, one POS terminal machine, and five ATM cards,” the statement partly read.
According to Adebisi, the suspect confessed to recently robbing three individuals of their belongings, including the recovered POS terminal and ATM cards.
She added that investigators were working to determine the identity of the owner of the suspected human hand, how it came into the suspect’s possession and its intended use.
The police spokesperson said efforts were also underway to identify and apprehend other persons linked to the suspect.
“The suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation. The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, psc, mnips, assures Lagos residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating violent crime and other criminal activities.
He urges members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information that will aid crime prevention and enhance public safety,” the statement added
