The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Labour Party (LP) has officially presented a Certificate of Return to Chief George Moghalu, confirming him as the party’s flagbearer for the upcoming Anambra State Governorship Election scheduled for Nov. 8, 2025.
The certificate which was issued at the Labour Party headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday following a successful primary election in which Moghalu emerged victorious.
In the party’s gubernatorial primary election which held at Awka, capital city of Anambra State on April 5, Moghalu polled 573 out 601 accredited from the list of 649 delegates.
In all the primary had a total of 592 valid votes cast.
Speaking at the ceremony, Labour Party National Secretary Hon. Umar Faruk Ibrahim described Moghalu as a “sellable and experienced candidate” with a solid track record in both the public and private sectors.
Umar emphasized that Anambra remains a stronghold of the Labour Party, expressing confidence in the party’s ability to win the forthcoming election.
In his acceptance remarks, Moghalu expressed gratitude to the delegates and the party leadership for a transparent and fair primary process,
“We must now get to work to sell the Labour Party agenda to the people of Anambra. Our goal is to reach every nook and cranny of the state with our message.
“I am ready for the challenge ahead. With my experience in public service, I am confident in my capacity to defeat the incumbent and restore the state’s lost glory. I enjoin party members and well-meaning Anambraians to join this people-driven mission to make Anambra work again.”
Moghalu, a former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), brings decades of boardroom expertise, administrative and leadership experience to the race.
