Several passengers were injured on Monday when a train operating on the Abuja–Kaduna rail corridor derailed following a collision near Asham.
The incident was confirmed by the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Kayode Opeifa.
According to Opeifa, the train encountered an incident while travelling from Abuja to Kaduna, near the community of Asham.
He said that although several passengers sustained injuries during the incident, no fatalities had been recorded as of the time of filing this report.
The injured passengers were subsequently transported back to Idu Train Station, where they received medical attention.
“It is confirmed that our Abuja–Kaduna train had an incident at Asham. Some passengers sustained injuries, but no lives were lost. Those injured have been taken to Idu station for necessary medical care,” Opeifa said.
He added that the Nigerian Railway Corporation had launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the derailment and possible collision.
The Abuja–Kaduna rail line remains one of Nigeria’s busiest passenger rail routes, serving thousands of commuters daily between the Federal Capital Territory and Kaduna State.
Rail authorities are expected to provide further updates as investigations into the incident continue.
