Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party’s senatorial candidate for Kogi Central ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This has set the stage for a major political contest with former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, who recently secured the All Progressives Congress ticket for the district.
Natasha’s emergence was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by her Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mike Idoko, following an affirmation exercise conducted across the 57 wards in Kogi Central Senatorial District.
The exercise took place simultaneously in all the wards before the final collation of results at Kahal Cinema, Okene, where party leaders, stakeholders and supporters gathered for the conclusion of the process.
According to the statement, officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission and members of the media monitored the exercise to ensure compliance with due process and transparency.
Her emergence now sets up what is expected to be one of the fiercest senatorial battles in the country with former Governor Yahaya Bello securing the APC ticket for Kogi Central.
Bello, on Tuesday 19th May, staged a major political comeback after polling 72,399 votes to defeat Ibrahim Yakubu Adoje and Momoh Obaro in the APC primary election.
The outcome of both primaries has effectively pitched Natasha against Bello in a high-stakes contest in Kogi Central ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking after the collation of results, Natasha thanked party members and supporters for what she described as an overwhelming show of confidence and unity.
“This affirmation is a reflection of the trust and confidence the people of Kogi Central have continued to place in our collective vision for progress, inclusion and development,” she said.
The lawmaker stated that the turnout across the district reflected the commitment of party members to strengthening democratic participation.
“I am deeply humbled by the massive turnout across all 57 wards. This is not just about one individual; it is about our people coming together in unity to deepen democracy and build a stronger and more prosperous Kogi Central,” she added.
Natasha also pledged to continue engaging communities across the senatorial district while focusing on development and representation.
“I accept this responsibility with gratitude and renewed commitment. By the grace of God and with the continued support of our people, we will remain focused on delivering sustainable development, justice and opportunities for everyone,” she said.
