National Judicial Institute Gets New Administrator, Justice Babatunde Adejumo

The National Judicial Institute Board of Governors in Nigeria has appointed Honourable Justice  Babatunde Addniran Adejumo as the Administrator of the National Judicial Institute, NJI.

Justice Adejumo is taking over from Justice Salisu Garba Abdullahi whose tenure as the Administrator of the Institute comes to an end on  31st July 2025.

A statement from office of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Honourable Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, GCON, said Justice Adejumo appointment  takes effect as from August 1st, 2025.

The statement which was signed and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Thursday by Mr. Tobi Soniyi, Senior Special Assistant (Media) to the Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria, explained that the appointment was made by the Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria, after due consultation with the Board of Governors, in accordance with the provisions of the National Judicial Institute Act.

In the statement, the CJN  commended  the outgoing Administrator for his tireless commitment and invaluable contributions to the growth and development of the Institute and the Nigerian judiciary as a whole.

She described Justice Adejumo as a  highly respected jurist and a seasoned administrator, who served with distinction as President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria until his retirement in 2019.

” His wealth of experience and deep understanding of judicial administration are qualities that are expected to significantly enhance the Institute’s effort in promoting judicial capacity development and institutional innovation.

“The National Judicial Institute remains as the apex institution responsible for the continuing education, training and development of Judicial officers and their support staff across all levels of the judiciary. It serves as a centre for excellence in judicial studies, with a mandate to promote efficiency, uniformity and improvement in the quality of judicial services nationwide”, part of the statement read.

Soniyi also intimated that the Institute routinely conducts courses, workshops, conferences and other academic and professional programmes tailored to enhance the knowledge, performance, and ethical standards of judicial officers and personnel in line with global practices.

 Justice Adejumo Babatunde Addniran, was born in Ikaram-Akoko, Ondo State on 1st October, 1954. 

He is the immediate past president of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria. He served as the President of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria between 5th May, 2003 and 30th September, 2019, where he made significant contributions to the development of Labour, Industrial and Employment laws both statutorily and constitutionally in Nigeria. 

He has developed the labour and work place related jurisprudence in Nigeria.
