The Nigeria Democratic Congress has constituted a 17-member screening committee to oversee the vetting of aspirants seeking the party’s tickets for the presidency, governorship, Senate and House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the National Secretary of the party, Barr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, who announced that the committee would be inaugurated at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
According to the statement, former Ebonyi State Governor and ex-Senator, Sam Egwu, will chair the panel, while the party’s National Legal Adviser, Barr. Reuben Egwuaba, will serve as secretary.
The party explained that the committee was assembled to ensure that only credible aspirants emerge through its internal selection process ahead of the party primaries.
Enekweizu stated that Egwu’s experience as a former governor and senator positioned him to lead what he described as a transparent and credible screening exercise.
The committee which also has Comrade Babatunde Ali as deputy chairman includes political figures, professionals and members of the party’s National Working Committee.
Other members are Alhaji Buba Galadima, Hon. Mohammed Sani Takori, Daniel Onifade, Ikeddy Isiguzo, Wole Adedayo, Dr. Osusu Osusu, Chief Asukewe Ikoawaji, Prof. Udenta Udenta, Barr. Frederick E. Owotorufa, Hannatu Tanko, Dogo Shammar, Sir Henry Obaze, Clement Agiagie and Barr. Fatima Musa Abba.
The party said the committee’s primary responsibility would be to scrutinise the credentials and eligibility of aspirants seeking to contest elective offices under the platform of the NDC in the 2027 elections.
