The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Ama, has declared zero tolerance on extortion, harassment and intimidation by the police personnel as he assumed duty in the state.
Ama, who assumed full duty on Monday at the assured the residents of the state that the Command under his leadership would perform its constitutional responsibilities with integrity, fairness, professionalism and respect for the rule of law.
“We will remain resolute in protecting lives and property, and maintaining public order throughout the state.
He pledged a comprehensive review of the Command’s policing strategies with emphasis on stronger intelligence gathering, intelligence-led and technology-driven operations, improved operational efficiency and proactive crime prevention.
The CP said the Command would also reinforce community policing initiatives, deepen collaboration with sister security agencies, organised vigilante groups and other critical stakeholders, and continue to build public confidence through effective partnership and engagement.
According to him, the clear objective is to make Anambra State safer, more secure and more peaceful for every resident and visitor.
Ama expressed deep sadness and concern over the recent discovery of four unconscious children aged 6, 9, 12 and 15 years in Ideani Community, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
He stressed that despite strenuous medical efforts, three of the children were certified dead while the fourth is receiving intensive care and fighting for survival.
He stated that the State Police Command would bear the full medical expenses of the surviving child and closely monitor the treatment and recovery to ensure every necessary intervention is provided.
The police commissioner noted that the circumstances surrounding the incident would be investigated with the highest level of professionalism out of respect for the sanctity of human life.
He commended the dedication and sacrifices of officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, other security agencies and residents of Anambra for their continued cooperation and partnership in maintaining peace and public safety.
Ama thanked the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, for the confidence reposed in him and also appreciated Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his unwavering support to the police and other security agencies.
He appealed to members of the media to uphold the highest standards of professionalism by ensuring that reports remain factual, balanced, responsible and guided by the overriding interest of public safety and national security.
