A former National and West African light-heavyweight champion Segun Olanrewaju has died during a heavy weight boxing bout in Ghana.
The boxer suddenly went down falling on the ring in what looks like a heart attack.
Olanrewaju was taking on a Ghanaian boxer, Jon Mbanugu, at Fight Night 15 of the Ghana Professional Boxing League at Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday, March 29, 2025.
In spite of the fact that Olarenwaju collapsed without immediate punch from his Ghanaian opponent, the referee counted to four before other match officials joined him to attend to the fallen Nigerian boxer.
The death of Olanrewaju a onetime National and West African light-heavyweight champion has thrown the boxing community into mourning.
