The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reported an overwhelming response to its recent recruitment exercise, with 573,519 applications submitted for just 3,927 available positions, following the opening of the application portal less than a week ago.
This recruitment initiative was announced by Finance Minister, Mr. Olawale Edun, who confirmed the approval of new officers to bolster the NCS workforce.
In an update released on Tuesday, NCS spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada provided detailed insights into the applicant demographics.
He stated, “I want to break down the number of people that applied. We have two categories of officers: support staff who are professionals and those applying for general duty roles…
“General Duty (Superintendent Cadre) A total of 249,218 applicants have applied for this rank, Support Staff (Superintendent Cadre) 27,722 candidates with HNDs and university degrees applied.
“Inspector Cadres for general duty, 115,634 candidates applied with National Certificate for Education (NCE) or National Diploma while for support staff, 12,952 individuals applied in this category also Customs Assistants (Secondary School Certificate Holders) General duty applicants with five credits, including Maths and English had 153,593.
“Support staff applicants without Maths and English has 14,400 applicants”
The surge in applications reflects a significant interest in joining the Nigeria Customs Service, highlighting the organization’s role in national security and economic development.
The NCS aims to proceed with a rigorous selection process to ensure the best candidates are chosen for the vacant positions.
