A total of nine shops and a police post were damaged in a fire incident at a gas station at the Liberty Junction in Kubwa, Abuja, on Sunday morning when a driver rammed his car into the station.
The driver of the car was also injured in the inferno which occurred at about 6:15 am on Sunday.
The driver and a little child were rushed to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
The incident affected a worshipper of Living Faith Church, Kubwa whose white Lexus SUV was seriously damaged in the rear in the accident.
Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has coordinated an emergency response following a fire outbreak at the gas plant in Kubwa.
The incident occurred at about 6:20 a.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2026, according to the NEMA Abuja Operations Office (AOO), which received a distress alert and immediately activated relevant emergency response agencies.
The Federal Fire Service and other critical response stakeholders were mobilised to the scene, while Emergency Response Ambulance Bay (ERAB) teams from Kubwa and AYA were deployed to support the firefighting and emergency response operations.
NEMA said its DSAR and DPRF teams also provided strategic supervision of the operation at the scene.
The fire was brought under control by about 7:45 a.m., after which the affected area was dampened to minimise the risk of a secondary fire or explosion.
Preliminary findings indicated that no casualty was recorded in the incident.
However, NEMA said a vehicle was completely destroyed by the fire, while neighbouring buildings were severely affected. The emergency operation ended at about 8:45 a.m.
NEMA, on behalf of its Director-General, commended the responding agencies and other stakeholders for their prompt intervention and professionalism in containing the incident.
The agency also urged relevant regulatory authorities and other stakeholders to ensure that gas plants are located outside residential areas and operated in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
It said stricter compliance with safety regulations was necessary to minimise the risk of similar incidents and protect lives and property in densely populated communities.
