NLC, TUC threaten nationwide strike over insecurity

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its Trade Union Congress (TUC), counterpart have threatened to embark on a nationwide strike to protest insecurity in the country.

Joe Ajaero, NLC President stated this on Monday in Geneva, Switzerland during a joint media briefing on the sidelines of the ongoing 114th International Labour Conference.

The labour centres also called on the Federal Government to begin the process for the commencement of the renegotiation of the National Minimum Wage which is expected to emerge next year July.

They dismissed claims by some state governors that they had commenced negotiations with workers on a proposed ₦100,000 minimum wage.

The Labour leaders argued that the claim by the governors did not reflect the current realities of discussions on workers’ welfare.

According to them any new legislation of the new wage, insisting on negotiations to arrive at acceptable figure.
