The former chief of army staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai, has debunked the claims that his convoy was attacked by suspected terrorists in Borno state.
The denial is coming on the heel of allegation made by Senator Ali Ndume while speaking on ChannelsTV’s Politics Sunday, that Buratai was attacked by suspected Boko Haram members in the state.
However, in a swift reaction, Buratai, said he was never attacked in any way , adding that he is currently in Abuja.
He urged the public to disregard the reports and warned those behind the claims to desist.
The former Nigeria’s ambassador to the Republic of Benin, in a statement issued on Monday by the former Army spokesman, Gen. Sani Usman, described the claim of an attack as “mischievous and utterly false”
The statement read partly: “For the avoidance of doubt, he celebrated the Eid festivities peacefully in Abuja, in the company of family, friends and well-wishers, and has remained within the Federal Capital Territory since then.
“The claim is “mischievous and utterly false. The authors of the story are attempting to spread fear and confusion.
“This baseless rumour is a product of the reckless imagination of the purveyors of fake news, individuals whose sole aim is to malign him, spread fear, confusion and misinformation.
“The fabricators of these actions are not only mischievous but also deeply irresponsible and must be condemned in the strongest terms.” He said
Usman said the former Army chief sincerely extends his heartfelt and profound appreciation to the countless patriotic and well-meaning Nigerians, friends, associates and admirers of his excellency who reached out with genuine concern, prayers and goodwill.
“Your overwhelming show of love and support is deeply cherished and speaks volumes about the enduring respect and affection we are privileged to receive from across the country and beyond.” He added
