Popular Nollywood stars Funke Akindele, Bolanle Ninalowo, and Godwin Nnadiekwe, confirmed his death on Instagram.
“Hmmmmmm. Rest in peace, Alex. I tried to reach out to see you one more time, but I guess you knew best. May your kind soul rest in peace, Alex. ‘Ore mi like you fondly called me, I will always remember and cherish the good times we shared together. Rest in Peace, Alex.” Akindele wrote.
Another actor , Ninalowo, mow based I. the United States, also confirmed the sad incident on his page.
“Rest on, Alex. May God heal your family and us all.” He wrote
Also, sources within the Nigerian film industry confirmed that the actor passed away on Tuesday afternoon after being placed on life support at a hospital where he had been receiving treatment.
A Nollywood source, said that the Abia State born actor was rushed to the hospital on Monday following a deterioration in his health condition.
According to the source, efforts by medical personnel to stabilise him proved unsuccessful.
The actor’s death has thrown the entertainment industry into mourning, with fans and colleagues expressing shock and sadness over the development.
Ekubo had remained largely absent from public events and social media for several months, fuelling speculation about his health.
Concerns over his wellbeing first emerged in May 2025 after his prolonged disappearance from online platforms.
A check by our correspondent showed that the actor’s last social media post was made on December 30, 2024.
Ekubo rose to prominence as one of Nollywood’s leading actors through his roles in romantic dramas, comedy films, and blockbuster productions.
Known for his charismatic screen presence and versatility, he built a strong following within and outside Nigeria, earning several award nominations and recognition for his contributions to the movie industry.
Over the years, he became one of the most recognisable faces in Nollywood, featuring in numerous successful films and television productions.
As of the time of filing this report, the actor’s family had yet to issue an official statement regarding his death.
