The Ogun State Waste Management Authority has arrested a woman seen in a viral video disposing of refuse into a drainage channel in Sagamu.
The arrest was carried out in collaboration with Environmental Health Officers of Sagamu Local Government following the circulation of the video on social media.
The footage showed the woman carrying a yellow sack filled with waste before emptying its contents into a drainage channel during rainfall.
She appeared unfazed after noticing she was being recorded and challenged over the act captured in the video.
Confirming the development in a statement posted on X on Tuesday, the Ogun State Waste Management Authority said the woman had been apprehended.
“The Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA), in collaboration with the Environmental Health Officers (EHO) of Sagamu Local Government, has apprehended the lady captured in a viral video dumping waste into a drainage channel in Sagamu last Friday,” the agency stated.
The agency used the opportunity to warn residents against indiscriminate waste disposal, noting that such practices contribute to environmental pollution and blocked drainage systems.
OGWAMA urged members of the public to make use of waste collection operators accredited by the agency for proper refuse disposal.
“A cleaner Ogun State is a shared responsibility,” it added.
