Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has declared Friday, August 14, 2026, a work-free day for public servants across the state ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The decision was announced in a circular issued by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, and shared on Wednesday by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
According to the circular, the work-free day is intended to give workers adequate time to travel, prepare for the election and participate in the voting process.
The directive applies to all categories of public service workers, except personnel involved in emergency and other essential services.
As the state prepares for the poll, Adeleke also called on workers, their families and associates to participate actively in the election and ensure their votes count.
The governor praised the organised labour and the state workforce for their support for his administration, describing the relationship between his government and workers as beneficial to both sides.
“The time for action has come. As formal workers at state establishments, I task you to mobilise informal workers, artisans and professional bodies,” Adeleke said.
He urged residents to remain committed to exercising their civic rights and to take advantage of the election to determine the state’s future direction.
“We must remain strong in defence of our constitutional rights to vote and be voted for,” he said.
Adeleke also appealed to voters to protect the achievements recorded under his administration over the past three and a half years.
“We must defend the gains of the last three and half years plus. Ours is a workers-friendly government which has delivered across board to labour and Osun people. We cannot and must not allow a return to dark days,” Adeleke added
