No fewer than 200 armed bandits have invaded Babanla community in Kwara State.
They killed a policeman, four other civilians and looted a local market.
Our correspondent gathered on Saturday, that the incidence happened around 1:00 p.m on Friday.
The invaders stormed the Babanla Police Station with several motorcycles.
It was further learnt that during the operation, a police personnel identified as ASP Adejumo Wasiu, attached to the ACPOL Offa, was shot dead, and his AK-47 rifle was taken, while four civilians were killed.
After targeting the police facility, the gunmen proceeded to the town’s market, carting away large quantities of foodstuffs.
When contacted, a senior police officer at the Divisional Police Headquarters at the town on condition of anonymity confirmed the incident.
He said, “We have notified the state police command on the ugly incident and the command would give further details on it soon.”
The Chief Press Secretary to Kwara State Governor, Mr. Rafiu Ajakaye, in a statement in Ilorin, confirmed the incidence.
He commended the Army, the Police, and community vigilante members for their quick intervention.
The statement added that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has been in constant touch with security commanders and local vigilante leaders, and has ordered a sustained security lockdown of the area to neutralise the threat and protect residents.
