The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the alleged possession of a human skull in Ijio, Iwajowa Local Government Area of the state.
Police spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the arrests were made during a joint intelligence-led operation conducted by the command in collaboration with the Oyo State Security Network Agency, Amotekun.
According to him, the operation followed credible intelligence linking a suspect to the unlawful possession of a human skull.
Acting on the information, security operatives arrested Shittu Isah of the Kajola area of Ijio and recovered the skull, which was taken into police custody as evidence.
“During interrogation, Shittu Isah confessed to having exhumed the suspected human skull from a Muslim burial ground in Ijio.
“He further confessed that he did not act alone, a development that led to the arrest of one Tunde Ajibade, who is currently assisting the police with ongoing investigations,” the statement read.
The police said the recovered skull has been preserved for forensic examination to determine its origin and other relevant details.
The command added that investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the case, determine the motive behind the alleged offence and identify any other persons connected to it.
Olayinka said the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, directed the operation and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
He also urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support efforts to combat crime across the state.
