The Oyo State Police Command has debunked reports claiming that abductors have released pupils and teachers kidnapped from Ahoro Esiele and Yawota communities in Orire LGA of the state.
The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday in Ibadan.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Adewale Osifeso, described the report as false, misleading and entirely unsubstantiated.
He said that as of Thursday morning, there had been no such development and urged members of the public to disregard the report.
“The claim that abductors have released the abducted pupils and teachers is false, misleading and entirely unsubstantiated.
“As of Thursday morning, no such development occurred and I urge members of the public to disregard the report in its entirety,” he said
Osifeso, however, reassured residents and families of the victims that intensive and coordinated rescue efforts were ongoing.
“The security operatives are working tirelessly and deploying all available human and operational resources to secure the safe rescue of the abductees, and reunite them with their families unharmed and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“We are commitment to ensuring the victims’ safe return and the prosecution of all those responsible for the abduction.
Osifeso urged the public to rely only on verified information from official sources.
He also urged them to avoid spreading unconfirmed reports that could undermine ongoing rescue operations.
