Ruth Otabor, younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, has died, weeks after sustaining severe injuries in a road accident.
The family confirmed her death in a statement issued on Sunday by their legal representatives, Eko Solicitors & Advocates. According to the statement, Ruth passed away at about 6:30 a.m. on August 31, 2025.
“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st Day of August, 2025 at about 06:30hrs,” the statement read.
The family appealed for privacy as they mourn. “The family is presently grieving and will appreciate being given a private moment to mourn the departed. Funeral arrangements will be communicated to the public in due course,” it added.
Ruth’s death comes barely three weeks after she was involved in a tragic accident near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State. She had graduated from the institution just six days before the incident.
On August 13, 2025, a truck reportedly linked to Dangote Group crushed her leg, forcing doctors to amputate it in an attempt to save her life. Eyewitnesses said the vehicle was eventually stopped by a bystander.
Her passing has sparked an outpouring of grief from family, friends, and fans of Phyna, with many describing it as a heartbreaking end to a promising young life.
