No fewer than 38 suspects have been arrested as police intensified manhunt for the killers of Rev. Fr. Matthew Eya.
The priest was murdered on Sept.19, 2025 along Eha-Ndiagu Eha-Etiti Road in Eha-Alumona community, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu state.
SP Daniel Ndukwe, the State Police Command Public Relations Officer said in a statement on Sunday that the arrests were made during intensive bush combing operations and raids on criminal hideouts carried out by operatives under the Udenu Area Command.
He revealed that incriminating exhibits were recovered during the raids, while the suspects are currently undergoing screening to determine their involvement.
According to him, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, had ordered the operation and reiterated the Command’s determination to track down those behind the killing.
“We will leave no stone unturned in apprehending the perpetrators of this heinous crime and bringing them to justice,” the CP stated.
CP Giwa also extended condolences to the immediate family of the late priest and the Catholic Church, assuring them of the Command’s resolve to secure justice.
“We deeply sympathize with the family and the Church. The Police remain committed to ensuring that those behind this crime are brought to book,” he said.
The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and security in the affected area, urging the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that could aid ongoing investigations.
