The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four male kidnap suspects and recovered two pump-action guns with nine live cartridges in Amansea, Awka North Local Government Area of the state.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command’s Spokesman confirmed the arrest in a statement on Tuesday.
The arrested suspects are Chigozie Igboekwu ‘M’ aged 31 years, Odumegwu Chibuike ‘M’ aged 23 years, Jonah Awudu ‘M’ aged 40 years, and Okechukwu Nwari ‘M’ aged 33 years.
He said the arrests were carried out by police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, in the early hours of Sept. 1. 2025.
According to him, the operation was based on credible intelligence linked to a kidnapping case in which a ransom of ₦5 million was paid before the victims were released.
Ikenga stated that the case was initially handled by B Division, Awka, before being transferred to the Rapid Response Squad on Aug. 14.
He added that the suspects have voluntarily confessed to the crime and narrated how they conspired among themselves, on Aug. 12 at about 7.00 pm and kidnapped two victims in Amansea, Awka, kept them for two days in a bush at Ugwuoba, Enugu State, and collected ransom before they were released.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commended the operatives for their resilience and reassured Anambra people of the Command’s unwavering commitment to rid the state of criminal elements and ensure the safety and security of all residents.
Ikenga noted that the case would be charged to the Court on the conclusion of investigation, while, operations are still ongoing to arrest other gang/syndicate members.
