The police have arrested a 50-year-old man, Nicholas Nusa, over the alleged abduction and sexual abuse of five female children in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.
The arrest followed information received on September 12 concerning the alleged abduction of the children from the Ibillo-Imoga axis of the area. Police intervention led to Nusa’s arrest, while the victims were subsequently reunited with their families.
The police said preliminary investigations indicated that the children were sexually abused. One of the victims became pregnant and went into premature labour, but lost the baby following surgery.
The police spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Patrick Daaor, as part of an account of recent operations against violent and other crimes across the state.
The command said it arrested 10 suspects for various violent crimes within the period under review, while one suspected kidnapper was killed and an AK-47 rifle was recovered.
It also announced the arrest of Mohammed Manfred Abdulramah, 32, who was allegedly impersonating a military officer. Personnel of 195 Battalion, Agenebode, arrested him on September 16 along the Auchi-Okene Expressway.
According to the police, Abdulramah was travelling from Warri, Delta State, to Okene, Kogi State, while wearing military camouflage trousers and a vest. Investigators allegedly established that he was not a member of the military and had stolen the uniform from a Navy officer in Niger State.
“On 16th September 2026 at about 14:00hrs, personnel of 195 Battalion, Agenebode, stationed at Okpella, arrested one Mohammed Manfred Abdulramah, 32, of Okene, Kogi State, along the Auchi–Okene Expressway for suspected impersonation.
“The suspect, who was travelling from Warri, Delta State, to Okene, was found dressed in military camouflage trousers and a camouflage vest. During police investigation, it was discovered that the suspect is not a member of the military and stole the uniform from a Navy officer based in Niger State. Preliminary investigation is ongoing.”
In another operation, officers arrested Sunday Irabor on September 8 at Efe Classic Crown Hotel near Oluku Market following intelligence. Police said three mobile phones, a Samsung tablet, a wristwatch and unspecified amounts of naira and dollars were recovered from him.
The Violent Crime Response Unit, according to the command, linked Irabor to several criminal activities in the state following its investigation.
Police also recovered a Toyota Camry with registration number BEN 572 BT after the vehicle was reported stolen on September 7. Tracking and investigation led officers to the complainant’s driver, Isiaka Suleiman, who was arrested in Warri, Delta State.
The police said the vehicle and Suleiman were handed over to the Violent Crime Response Unit for further investigation, while the suspects in the various cases would be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
The Commissioner of Police said the operations reflected the command’s focus on intelligence-led policing and rapid response to kidnapping, violent crime, sexual offences and other criminal activities. He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to the police.
