The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a man accused of impersonating a permanent secretary attached to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) after intercepting a Lexus SUV displaying a concealed number plate marked “PRESIDENCY” in Maitama, Abuja.

The vehicle was intercepted at about 8 pm on October 20, 2026, during a police operation in the upscale Abuja district, according to a statement issued by the command on Thursday.

The statement, signed by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, said preliminary investigations uncovered irregularities in the vehicle’s number plate and registration documents.

Police said the concealed plate carried the registration number 10B218 FG, but documents presented to support its registration were found to be forged.

The suspect allegedly claimed to be the legitimate holder of the number plate. However, further investigations indicated that he was impersonating a permanent secretary attached to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

“The vehicle and its occupant were promptly arrested for investigation and subsequent prosecution.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the concealed number plate bore the inscription “PRESIDENCY” and registration number 10B218 FG,” the statement said.

The command said investigations were continuing and that the suspect would be charged to court after their conclusion.

The arrest highlights the police investigation into the alleged use of forged vehicle registration documents and the unauthorised display of a number plate bearing a presidential designation in Abuja.

Adeh urged residents of the Federal Capital Territory to comply with the law, cooperate with police operations and report suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station.
