Police Arrest Two Suspected Robbers, Recover Firearms and Ammunition in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered three locally made pistols along with 18 live cartridges during an operation targeting a robbery syndicate linked to vehicle theft and violent attacks in the state.

The suspects, identified as Adeyinka Onakomaya, 46, and Olayiwola Kehinde, 48, were apprehended by operatives of the command’s Anti-Robbery Team following investigations into an armed robbery case and the recovery of a stolen Toyota Matrix.

Police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Wednesday.

According to him, the arrests were made after sustained intelligence gathering and operational follow-up by detectives investigating the robbery incident that occurred in April 2026.

The suspects were tracked to separate hideouts in the Babaode area along Idiroko Road in Ota, Ogun State, and the Command area of Lagos State.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the two arrested suspects, alongside other members of their gang, masterminded the April robbery incident and participated in a series of armed robbery operations and violent vehicle snatchings across Ota, Iju, Babaode, and Atan areas of Ogun State,” Babaseyi said.

The police spokesman said a search conducted after the arrests led to the recovery of three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges.

He added that the suspects allegedly confessed to participating in several armed robbery operations and were assisting investigators with information to support ongoing efforts to dismantle the criminal network.

“Efforts are being intensified to track down, identify, and arrest other fleeing members of the criminal syndicate for possible prosecution,” Babaseyi said.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Robbery Team for its dedication and effective investigative work that led to the arrests and recovery of weapons.

Ojajuni said the operation reflected the command’s commitment to fighting armed robbery, curbing violent crime and ensuring public safety across Ogun State.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities and individuals to the police through the command’s emergency communication channels.
