Families and beneficiaries of police officers who died in the line of duty in Ekiti State have received insurance benefits totaling ₦9.797 million from the Nigeria Police Force.
The Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, presented the cheques on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday.
Falade said the payment demonstrated the police authorities’ commitment to the welfare of personnel and the families of officers who died while serving the country.
He described the disbursement as “a practical expression of the Force’s appreciation for the sacrifices of its fallen heroes.”
The commissioner acknowledged that no financial benefit could replace the loss of a loved one, but said the insurance payment would provide practical support to the affected families.
“The Nigeria Police Force remembers its own and will not abandon the families of officers who paid the supreme price,” Falade said.
He urged the beneficiaries to manage the funds responsibly, particularly by using them to support the education and welfare of the children left behind by the deceased officers.
Falade commended the IGP, Force Management Team, insurance stakeholders and the Force Insurance Unit for their roles in processing and settling the legitimate claims.
He also assured serving police personnel that the welfare of officers and their families remained a priority, while extending his condolences to the bereaved families.
The commissioner prayed for strength for the families and eternal rest for the deceased officers.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mathew Emmanuel thanked the IGP and the Nigeria Police Force for the financial assistance and continued support to families of fallen officers.
Emmanuel pledged that the beneficiaries would use the money judiciously for the welfare and needs of the affected families.
