The Katsina State Police Command has presented insurance benefit cheques worth over ₦28 million to the families of 25 police officers who died while serving the nation.

The Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, presented the cheques at the Command Headquarters in Katsina on Tuesday as part of a welfare initiative approved by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for families of deceased personnel.

A total of ₦28,012,584.70 was distributed to the beneficiaries during the event.

Addressing the families, Fage expressed sympathy over the loss of their loved ones and described the deceased officers as dedicated personnel whose sacrifices would continue to be remembered.

He said the financial support was intended to assist the families and demonstrate the police authorities’ commitment to the welfare of officers and their dependants.

The commissioner urged the beneficiaries to make prudent use of the funds to address immediate needs and support their future wellbeing.

Fage also praised the Inspector-General of Police for prioritising the welfare of serving officers and the families of personnel who lost their lives in active service.

“I appreciate the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his commitment to officers’ welfare and for ensuring that the sacrifices of our fallen heroes are not forgotten,” he said.

The command stated that the payment reflected the Nigeria Police Force’s continued effort to support families of officers who paid the supreme price in the course of duty.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Alkasim Salisu thanked the Inspector-General of Police and the Katsina Commissioner of Police for the gesture.

“We are grateful to the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioner of Police for this kind gesture. We assure you that the money will be used judiciously,” he said.

The presentation is part of ongoing welfare measures aimed at providing financial assistance to families of fallen police officers across the country.
