Workers of the Federal Ministry of Education on Wednesday blocked the entrance to the ministry’s headquarters, preventing the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, and the Acting Permanent Secretary, Dr Folake Olatunji-David, from accessing their offices.
A video circulating on X showed a crowd of ministry workers gathered at the entrance as a motorcade reportedly conveying the minister, Tunji Alausa, arrived at the premises.
The workers were heard chanting, “Alausa must go,” as they blocked access to the ministry’s headquarters.
The protest came amid an ongoing dispute between the ministry’s workers’ unions and the Federal Government over the proposed concession of King’s College, Lagos, as well as concerns relating to staff welfare and administrative matters.
The unions had previously called for the removal of Alausa and opposed the reported 35-year concession of King’s College to the institution’s old boys’ association.
The workers have also raised concerns over staff welfare and other administrative issues within the ministry.
The latest action suggests that differences between the ministry’s management and the workers remain unresolved despite previous engagements aimed at addressing the issues.
Details of the workers’ specific demands during Wednesday’s protest were not immediately available as of the time of filing this report.
