Police Disperse Protesters Throwing Stones Into Gombe Government House

The ongoing protest against hardship turned violent on Thursday in Gombe with police taking immediate steps to prevent chaos.

The demonstrators turned violent and started throwing stones into the Gombe State Government House in the state capital.

They were said to have also destroyed all posters of the Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, at the main entrance of the gate of the Government House.

The violence fuelled tensions forcing men of the Nigeria Police Force to disperse the demonstrators to prevent damage to public property.

The NETWORK gathered that the security operatives fired teargas to disperse the irate protesters.

The protest was said to be proceeding peacefully before some of the demonstrators picked stones and hurled same inside the Government House at the centre of the town.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Gombe State Command, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, said the situation had been brought under control.

He said the Commissioner of Police and heads of other security agencies were on ground to manage the situation.

ASP Abdullahi said,”The situation is under control and the Police Commissioner and other heads of security agencies are here to manage the situation.

“We are managing the situation, the situation for now is relatively calm. We are trying to talk to them so that they consider dialogue with the Government.”

While the processions in some parts of the state capital were said to be going on peacefully, the police had to use teargas to disperse protesters that  resorted to violence in some other places.
