The Jigawa State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of a 60-year-old man who reportedly suffered a medical emergency at a hotel in Dutse.
Police spokesperson, SP Shi’isu Adam, said the incident was reported on July 21, 2026, at about 12:50 p.m.
According to him, the man had checked into the hotel with a 20-year-old woman before the incident occurred.
Adam said the deceased reportedly developed breathing difficulties shortly after requesting and being served a meal.
“Upon receiving the distress report, police officers attached to the Yalwawa Division responded swiftly to the scene,” Adam stated.
He said the victim was rushed to the General Hospital, Dutse, where he was examined by medical personnel and later confirmed dead.
“At the hospital, he was examined by medical personnel and unfortunately certified dead,” he added.
The police spokesman said detectives who visited the scene recovered food items, beverages, a suspected sexual enhancement substance and other personal belongings for further examination.
“During the exercise, some food items, beverages, a suspected sexual enhancement substance, and other personal effects were recovered for further examination,” he stated.
Adam said the woman who was with the deceased is cooperating with investigators and assisting efforts to establish what transpired before the incident.
He added that the remains of the deceased were released to his family for burial after necessary procedures were completed, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death continue.
