The Ogun State Police Command has rescued 18 National Youth Service Corps members who were left stranded at night when their vehicle developed a fault in a notorious kidnapping black spot in the state.
The General Manager of Fresh FM Lagos, Taiwo Akinsola, popularly known as Omobabaolowo Woli ni Ilasamaja, commended the police for their proactive response.
The commendation was contained in a letter addressed to the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni.
The letter, which was made available to journalists on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the incident occurred on June 30 when the corps members found themselves stranded in a vulnerable location and reached out to the police for assistance.
“The Corps Members were stranded at night at a notorious black spot in Ogun State after their vehicle broke down.
“The location is widely known as a hotspot for kidnappers and criminal activity. In that moment of fear and vulnerability, they called for help,” Akinsola said.
He praised the police command for its swift response to the distress call, noting that officers arrived promptly, secured the area and evacuated the corps members safely to Ijebu Ode.
“We are deeply appreciative that the Ogun State Police Command, under CP Bode Ojajuni, responded promptly to the distress call. Your officers arrived without delay, secured the scene, and ensured the safe evacuation of all 18 Corps Members to Ijebu Ode and lodged them in a hotel.
“Their professionalism, courage and vigilance saved lives that night and prevented what could have been a tragic incident nationally,” he stated.
Akinsola described the intervention as a demonstration of the police’s commitment to protecting lives and property, adding that the corps members and their families remained grateful for the assistance.
He also commended the divisional police officer and patrol team involved in the operation.
“We commend you, the DPO of the division, and the patrol team who acted decisively. Your quick intervention has restored public confidence and shown that help is indeed available when needed,” he said.
