The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the dismissal and prosecution of two Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) due to serious allegations of misconduct, dishonesty, corruption, sabotage, and behavior unbecoming of police officers.
Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations, who announced this decision in a statement on Monday said the commission also approved the demotion of two Superintendent of police to that of Deputy Superintendent while One Deputy Superintendent was demoted to Assistant Superintendent.
Also three Assistant Superintendents were demoted to Inspectors, the statement added.
Ani further said ten senior officers received severe reprimands for unauthorized disclosure of official secrets, dishonesty, sabotage, and unbecoming conduct, nine senior officers received general reprimands and one Deputy Commissioner of Police was exonerated.
He noted that an Assistant Superintendent of Police received a formal letter of warning.
Additionally, the PSC recently processed promotions for various senior officers, outlined as follows:
Eleven Commissioners of Police to the next rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police; 16 Deputy Commissioners of Police to Commissioners; 21 Assistant Commissioners to Deputy Commissioners; 57 Chief Superintendents to Assistant Commissioners and 1348 Superintendents to Chief
Among those promoted are Obi-Ejoh Nnamdi Patrick, former Commander of the Anti-Narcotics Section, now serving in Kaduna Command, and Daniel Ndukwe, the Police Public Relations Officer for Enugu State Command.
Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu, emphasized the PSC’s commitment to ensuring that police officers uphold the law and protect lives and property effectively. He remarked, “We will give necessary attention to Pending Disciplinary Matters, ensuring that no officer faces undue stagnation in their career.”
The decisions made by the PSC have been formally communicated to the Inspector General of Police for implementation, as detailed in a letter signed by Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, the Secretary to the Commission
