POWER CRISIS: NGF  Invites Ministers Of Power, Health, President’s Chief Economic Adviser

The Nigeria Governors’Forum has summoned the Minister of Power, Engineer Aliyu Abubakar, Health Minister, Dr Osagie Ehanire, and the Chief Economic Adviser to the President, Dr Doyin Salami , to appear before it on its virtual meeting slated to take place on Wednesday, March 23.

The meeting is sequel to the lingering power sector crisis of the last couple of weeks, and other sundry health and economic issues of the country.

 These issues are expected to dominate conversation on how to address the issue of power projects delivery, health care and economic policies across the states.

In a statement on Saturday, the Head, Media and Public Affairs, Nigeria Governors’ Forum Secretariat,Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, saidthe Governors have sought the attendance of Abubakar, to the virtual meeting.

According to him, an invitation has been issued to all Governors by the Director General of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, Mr Asishana Bayo Okauru.

In the invitation letter sent to the Governors, Mr.Okauru pointed out that the virtual NGF meeting, which is the third of its kind this year slated for Wednesday 23rd March would commence at 2pm prompt. 

He disclosed that all the invitees are expected to begin to log in from 1300hrs.

According to the statement, the economy will also feature prominently at the meeting as the Chief Economic Adviser to the President, Dr Doyin Salami, has also been invited to discuss the Nigerian economy and his new perspectives.

Doyin Salami, was until his appointment in January, Chairman of the Presidential Economic Advisory Council (PEAC).

“The Chief Economic Adviser to the President is expected to address all issues on the domestic economy and present views on them to the President; closely monitor national and international developments, trends and develop appropriate policy responses; develop and recommend to the President national economic policies to foster macro-economic stability, promote growth, create jobs, and eradicate poverty, among others”, the statement reads.

The 36 state governors are expected to hear from the President’s National Economic Adviser the direction he is taking the economy to and then his policy reforms.

The Network gathered that another critical sector that the Governors would be deliberating upon is the Health Care Delivery in the country. 

“The Health Minister Dr Osagie Ehanire will be briefing the Governors on Oxygen Supply and the rehabilitation of General Hospitals”, the statement said.

“Another top official of the health sector who will be meeting the governors at the meeting is the Executive Director and CEO of the NPHCD Dr Faisal Shuaib.

He  will be briefing the Governors on the forthcoming Primary Health Care Summit, 2022.”
