The 20 medical students of Universities of Jos and Maiduguri, who were abducted in Benue State en route Enugu for a conference, Sunday, met with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun at Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The students were rescued after spending 9 days in captivity by a combined team of security operatives.
Police spokeman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi said no ransom was paid before their rescue, insisting that the students were tactically and professionally rescued from their abductors.
It was learnt that the freed medical students were immediately moved to the Nigeria Intelligence Agency’s complex, Asokoro Abuja on Saturday,
The Benue State Police Command, had on Friday, night confirmed the release of the 20 students from the University of Maiduguri and University of Jos, who were kidnapped by m gunmen in Benue State last week Thursday.
The command police public relations officer SP Catherine Anene broke the news of their release to our correspondent in Makurdi at about 11:15 pm on Friday night.
Their release came barely five days after the Inspector General of Nigeria (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, deployed his
tactical squad to the Benue State and relocated the State commissioner of police CP Yabanet to Otukpo LGA to rescue the abducted students.
The Network gathered that a combined team of security operatives coordinated by the Office of the National Security Adviser carried out the operation.
It was gathered that the successful operation involved the police, operatives of the DSS, the military and the cooperation of the Benue State Government.
