RIVERS CRISIS: WIKE, FUBARA SETTLE RIFT

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike and his estranged godson, Governor Sim Fubara have settled their lingering politician differences.

The two political actors agreed to work together to sustain the peace in Rivers State after a meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Thursday night.

Wike gave the hint about the resolution of the Rivers State crisis when he told the media that he and Fubara have resolved to work for peace.

Wike said that as members of the same political family, they have agreed to settle the disagreement.

He said, “We have all agreed to work together. Everything is over. We are members of the same political family.

“As humans, we have disagreements. We also have time to settle the disagreements. There is no more acrimony. Everything is over. It’s a day we have to thank the Almighty.”

In his reaction, Fubara said that they would do everything to sustain the peace in the state.

He expressed happiness that the crisis has been resolved.

“It’s important that this day has come. What we need in Rivers is peace. We shall do everything in our power to sustain peace in Rivers State.” He said

The protracted crisis between the Wike and Fubara defied efforts towards resolution by President Tinubu and the leadership of the Pan Niger Delta Forum.

The crisis made the President to declare a state of of emergency in the state on March 18, 2025 citing security reasons.

The President suspended Fubara for six months and appointed a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (retd.) as the Sole Administrator.
