Rivers Governor Fubara Implements New Minimum Wage of N85,000 for Workers

By Joy Yesufu

Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State has officially commenced the payment of a new minimum wage of N85,000 to state workers.

This milestone was announced by Chukwuma Osunna, Chairman of the Nigeria Civil Service Union, Rivers State Chapter.

“As of today, I can confirm that the Governor has fulfilled his promise,”

“The N85,000 new minimum wage has been implemented in the November salary, and workers are happy.”Osunna stated.

Osunna explained that the payment process involved collaboration with the Head of Service, where they reviewed the salary chart to ensure accurate calculations.

He noted that while payments began, additional banks would start disbursing the salaries by tomorrow. The increase has been widely welcomed by civil servants across the state.

Governor Fubara announced the wage hike in response to President Bola Tinubu’s approval of a national minimum wage of N70,000 in July.

Emphasizing the state’s strong Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), Fubara committed to providing a higher wage for Rivers workers to enhance their livelihoods.
