The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a six-man kidnapping syndicate allegedly involved in the abduction of a man in Port Harcourt.
The command also rescued the victim, identified as Hassan, after he was held captive for three days and his relatives reportedly paid N10.3 million ransom for his release.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Blessing Agabe, disclosed this in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Monday.
According to the statement, the victim was abducted on September 6, 2026, around Fidelity Bank in the Garrison area of Port Harcourt.
The kidnappers allegedly took him to Igbugulu Waterside in Borikiri, where he was held for three days before his release following the payment of the ransom by his relatives.
The police said they received information about the incident on September 7 and immediately deployed operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU-AKU) to investigate the case.
The operatives subsequently launched an intelligence-led operation which led to the arrest of two suspected members of the gang.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects confessed to their alleged involvement in the operation and disclosed that the gang comprises six members who used a white mini-bus during the operation,” the statement said.
The command said efforts were ongoing to arrest the remaining four suspects, who are currently at large.
The police assured residents that it would continue to intensify operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks in the state and bringing those responsible for the alleged crime to justice.
