Security Forces, Vigilantes Kill Notorious Zamfara Bandit Leader

Fidelia Soriwei, Abuja

A notorious bandit commander, Kachalla Sani Yellow, has been killed during a security operation in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, in what authorities and local security groups described as a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to combat banditry in the North-West.

The bandit leader, who was widely feared across parts of Zamfara, was reportedly neutralised during a gun battle involving local vigilante groups, hunters and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force supporting security operations in the area.

Security and community sources said the operation followed intelligence that led operatives to the suspect, who was accused of coordinating attacks, kidnappings and cattle rustling activities across Anka, Bukkuyum and Maru local government areas.

According to reports, Sani Yellow was intercepted during a security operation and killed before he could escape. His death was later confirmed by the Zamfara State Police Command.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Yazid Abubakar, confirmed the development.

The bandit commander was believed to be among the influential criminal leaders linked to a series of violent attacks on communities across Zamfara and other parts of the North-West.

Security sources said the operation forms part of intensified efforts by security agencies and local support groups to dismantle criminal networks operating along the Anka-Bagega-Gummi axis and other troubled areas of the state.

His death is expected to further weaken bandit activities in parts of Zamfara, although security personnel have reportedly heightened surveillance in vulnerable communities to prevent possible retaliatory attacks by members of his gang.

Stakeholders expressed optimism that sustained intelligence-led operations and collaboration between security agencies and local volunteers would help improve security and restore confidence among residents affected by years of bandit attacks.
