Seven Charged for Murder of Kwara Student, Awesu Mojisola

By Joy Yesufu

Seven suspects were arraigned on Monday at a Kwara State High Court in Ilorin, accused of the murder of Awesu Mojisola, a final-year student at the Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa.

The accused are the two prime suspects, Happiness Adebayo and Timileyin Kolawole, along with their parents, Adebayo Adeniyi and Bukola Adeniyi. Others are three hotel workers—Adeoye Adeola, Lawal Aminat, and Peter Bulus— who are also implicated in the case, which has drawn significant attention due to its shocking nature.

They face six counts, including conspiracy, murder, evidence destruction, and the disposal of the victim’s body at a dump site.

The alleged murder occurred between August 8 and 9, 2024, with the prosecution stating that the suspects conspired to lure Mojisola to Ilorin to her tragic death.

Kwara State Director of Public Prosecution, Mr. Ayoola Akande, represented the state, while Barristers F.A. Ahmed and A.I. Orisankoko appeared for the parents and hotel workers.

However, no pleas were entered for the prime suspects due to a lack of legal representation, prompting the Judge Adebayo Yusuf to remand Adebayo and Kolawole in custody.

He thereafter  adjourned the case to February 24, 2025, for proper arraignment.

This chilling murder brings to the fore concerns over student safety and the emerging patterns of violence within the community.
