SGF Expresses Grief Over Massscre of 200 Nigerians in Benue

…Says Yewalta Massacre a Heartbreaking Tragedy

By Joy Yesufu

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) has expressed deep sorrow over the continued massacre of innocent Nigerians in Benue State.

The SHF described the Yelewata massacre as a heartbreaking tragedy and a painful wound to the soul of the nation.

“These senseless and recurring acts of violence are not just Benue’s burden, they strike at the heart of Nigeria,” the SGF said in a statement he signed personally.

“What we are witnessing in Benue, Plateau, Zamfara, and other affected regions is not religiously motivated, it is economically driven, and deeply destabilising.”

He lamented the loss of innocent lives, men, women, and children urging all Nigerians to see the victims as “brothers and sisters bound by a shared humanity and a common destiny.”

Beyond mourning, the SGF called on the people of Benue especially traditional leaders, political figures, and stakeholders to unite urgently and forge a path toward sustainable peace and security.

He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu  for his swift intervention, including the deployment of troops to the state and the mobilisation of humanitarian assistance through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

“As a son of the soil and national stakeholder, I will not relent. I remain committed to mobilising all necessary consultations and resources to secure lasting peace in Benue and similarly affected states.” the SGF pledged.

He also reminded all Nigerians regardless of faith or background that the sanctity of human life must remain sacred.

“Any life lost offends the sensibility of God Almighty. Whether Christian, Muslim, or traditionalist, we are one people. We must live in peace.

“To the bereaved families and the resilient people of Benue, we mourn with you. In this dark hour, we stand with you. And we will not rest until justice speaks clearly, loudly, and without delay. May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may peace return to Benue.” He added
