The Sokoto State Government has praised security agencies for recent breakthroughs against banditry while mourning three soldiers and two police officers who lost their lives during separate operations in the state.
The state’s Special Adviser on Security Matters, retired Col. Ahmed Usman, said coordinated operations by the military, police and other security agencies had resulted in the rescue of kidnapped victims and the neutralisation of several criminal elements across affected communities.
According to Usman, the successes reflect the commitment and bravery of security personnel working to restore peace and stability in the state.
“The recent operational successes recorded by our security agencies are encouraging and demonstrate their unwavering determination to protect lives and secure our communities,” he said.
Despite the gains, the government said the operations came at a painful cost. Three soldiers were killed when their operational vehicle struck an Improvised Explosive Device along the Isa-Bargaja axis.
Two police officers also lost their lives after bandits ambushed security operatives in Tureta Local Government Area.
Paying tribute to the fallen personnel, Usman said, “These brave men made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their fatherland. Their dedication, patriotism and courage will remain a source of inspiration, and their sacrifices will never be forgotten.”
He extended condolences to the bereaved families, the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force, while praying for the repose of the deceased officers.
The security adviser also urged security agencies to sustain ongoing offensives against criminal groups as authorities intensify efforts to dismantle bandit camps, rescue victims and improve security across Sokoto and other parts of the North-West.
