A soldier attached to the Operation Hadarin Daji in Zamfara State has reportedly killed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Wasagu Division in Kebbi State, SP Halilu Liman.
The incident was said to have occurred at a military checkpoint while the deceased cop was returning to Kebbi State after attending a conference in Zamfara on August 24, 2024.
The Network gathered that Liman was stopped by the military officer who asked him to identify himself.
But after Liman identified himself, the soldier allegedly pointed his gun at him and shot at the police officer on his forehead and he died on the spot.
The police in Kebbi State has condemned the alleged murder of the DPO.
In a press statement, the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Abubakar, urged the military authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.
The command described the alleged brutal killing of the DPO as unacceptable and unwarranted.
It decried “the dearth of inter-agency collaboration and harmonious working relationship among security agencies”.
“The police least expected this from the military who were professionally trained to work with other security agencies in the country; that they would engage in unprovoked murder of a senior police officer”, the command said.
The statement did not indicate whether the military officer had been arrested, but stated that the command vowed to get to the root of the matter.
The command, however, extended its condolences to the deceased cop’s families and assured them that justice would be done.
