Suspected Boko Haram Terrorist Apprehended in Taraba

A suspected Boko Haram terrorist  identified as Gambo Grema, aka  Gamboi has been reportedly captured  by troops of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army in collaboration with Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) in Maihula, Bali local government area of Taraba State.

Acting Assistant Director, 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, stated this  in a  Statement issued in Jalingo, Tuesday.

According to him, the suspect was captured alive following actionable intelligence and had confessed to been part of a Boko Haram syndicate operating in the State to raise funds for the organisation through kidnapping and other criminal activities.

Oni maintained that troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), would not  relent in their efforts to ensure peace and security in Taraba State.

The statement read in parts:  On 26 January 2025, troops successfully tracked and apprehended a suspected member of the Boko Haram Terrorist group, identified as Gambo Grema, also known as Gamboi, in Mai-Hula town, Bali Local Government Area.

“During preliminary investigations, the suspect admitted to have been deployed by Boko Haram to Taraba State  and kidnap people for ransom as a means of financing their terrorist operations and to establish a new cell within the state.

 “The suspect further revealed that the syndicate also harbored members of the Islamic State In West Africa Province (ISWAP) who were deployed from the Timbuktu Triangle to carry out other criminal activities.

“The Commander 6 Brigade Nigerian Army Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, while commenting on the operation, noted that the operation underscores the commitment of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 OPWS to neutralizing threats posed by terrorist elements and safeguarding the lives and property of citizens in Taraba State and beyond. He assured the public that it remains resolute in its mission to maintain peace and stability in the region.

“General Uwa equally urged members of the public to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to aid ongoing operations,” the statement reads in part
