Suspected armed herders, on Friday invaded Mbaikyor council ward of Turan, Kwande Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State and burnt down over one hundred houses.
The Network gathered that the herders had on Tuesday night stormed the community and destroyed cassava farms and other valuable possessions and went back to the area today(Friday) to set houses ablaze after residents had fled due to previous attacks.
A local identified as Terwase Ugor named the affected areas to include Iyaaiwa, Kendev Ya, and Udeudeku, along the road to Anwase in Mbaikyor council ward.
“People have fled and left these properties which the herders came and destroyed again,” Akough lamented as he described the situation as critical.
He said Nyihemba Community, the heart of the council ward, remains under serious threat.
This latest attack comes after a similar incident on December 24, 2024, when over 20 people were killed in Anwase Community and a mass burial was conducted for them on January 8, 2025.
