The Transmission Company of Nigeria has intensified efforts to restore the 330kV Kainji-Birnin Kebbi transmission line following the collapse of a transmission tower in Yauri, Kebbi State, which disrupted electricity supply to parts of northwestern Nigeria.
The company said major progress had been recorded at the site, including the complete dismantling and decommissioning of the damaged tower, identified as Tower T367.
In a statement on Thursday, TCN disclosed that conductors and skywire had been properly aligned in preparation for the next phase of the restoration project.
The company added that an Emergency Restoration System tower had already been transported to the affected location and was ready for installation.
“This will be followed by cable stringing and associated works towards the restoration of the affected transmission line,” TCN said.
The transmission line was affected after a power outage occurred at about 10:44 p.m. on September 7, 2026, prompting TCN officials to conduct a fault-finding patrol along the transmission corridor.
According to the company, investigations showed that the tower collapsed due to heavy winds and rainstorms in the area, leading to a force majeure declaration on the affected line, designated 2KNJ-BRK1.
The incident interrupted bulk electricity transmission to Kebbi and Sokoto states, forcing TCN to redirect power supply through an alternative 132kV transmission route along the Kaduna-Mando axis.
TCN said engineers and technical personnel remain on site and are working to speed up the restoration process and return the transmission line to service.
“Our engineers and technical personnel remain actively engaged at the site and are working hard to ensure a quick completion and restoration of the line,” the company stated.
The company noted that the completion of the rehabilitation work would pave the way for the resumption of normal bulk electricity transmission through the affected corridor.
TCN also appealed to electricity consumers and stakeholders impacted by the disruption to remain patient, assuring them that all necessary measures were being taken to restore normal power transmission as quickly as possible.
“TCN appreciates the patience and understanding of electricity consumers and other stakeholders affected by the incident and assures the public that every effort is being made to restore the line and, consequently, normal bulk transmission as soon as possible,” the statement added.
