Three Sisters Drown as Boat Capsizes at Kano’s Tiga Dam

Three girls from the same family have drowned after the boat conveying them capsized at Tiga Dam in Tudun Wada Local Government Area of Kano State.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, according to relatives of the victims.

The deceased were identified as Murjanatu, Atikatu, and Bilkisu, popularly known as Amira, all from the Yalwan Rugu-Rugu community in the local government area.

The Chairman of Tudun Wada Local Government Area and Chairperson of the Association of Local Government Chairmen of Nigeria (ALGON), Kano State chapter, Hajiya Sa’adatu Salisu Soja, confirmed the incident in a statement.

Salisu Soja expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and residents of Yalwan Rugu-Rugu over the tragedy.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and the people of Yalwan Rugu-Rugu over this painful incident,” she said.

She also prayed for Allah to forgive the deceased and grant their families the strength to bear the loss.

“May Allah forgive them, have mercy on them, and grant their families the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” she said.

The circumstances surrounding the boat accident, including the number of people on board and the cause of the capsizing, were not immediately clear.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the Kano State Police Command or the Kano State Fire Service regarding the incident.

Further details on rescue efforts and the circumstances of the accident were also unavailable.
